UK PASSERINES

This album contains a reasonable selection of photos of some of the small passerine birds that I've seen and photographed around

the British Isles. I had intended to include an image of every species until I saw how many there were and found that quite a few could only be represented by pretty poor 'record shots'. The fact is that many so-called 'common' bird species are largely ignored by wildlife photographers in favour of those that are deemed more attractive or unusual. This seems to be particularly true with passerines, and

was certainly an issue I encountered when I looked back through my files for presentable photos that I simply didn't have.

Notwithstanding corvids, which I've deliberately excluded as I want to keep the set solely for small passerines, there are many birds

not represented here. I hope that in time I'll be able to include more species and possibly swap out a few of these photos for better

or more interesting images, but for now I'm pretty happy with the collection as it stands. Unless there's clear sexual dimorphism

between the sexes, I've only featured one or two photos of each species in order to keep the set a manageable size.

The following thumbnails expand when clicked. You can then scroll through the images in either the 'standard view', or an alternative 'compact view' (via the info button) if you wish to see where the photo was taken and read about the encounter and/or the species.

Whilst my albums are optimised for viewing on a desktop monitor or larger laptop, there is an optional 'full screen' mode for tablets or notebooks. But, please note that if you do use this mode on a smaller device, the top and/or bottom of some photos may

be clipped, and if you leave your curser over the image the navigation overlay backgrounds may be visible.
